It’s down to the last four in most of the Tullamore Court Hotel Offaly Football Championships, after a busy weekend of quarter-final action.
In the Senior Football Championship, double-headers took place at Glenisk O’Connor Park on Saturday and Sunday. Up first were Edenderry and Bracknagh, and ‘The Reds’ progressed by 0-16 to 2-07, with Cian Farrell hitting ten points. Afterwards, reigning champions Tullamore easily accounted for neighbours Durrow by 1-14 to 1-03, with Oisin Keenan-Martin scoring their goal midway through the first half.
On Sunday, a penalty shoot-out was required to separate Shamrocks and Ballycommon. Ballycommon led for most of the match, thanks to a hat-trick of goals from Ryan Kenny, but Shamrocks fought back to level at the end of extra-time, 3-09 to 1-15. Shamrocks won the shoot-out 3-2, with goalkeeper Sean O’Toole saving three shots, and scoring one himself. Then, in a repeat of last year’s semi-final, Ferbane defeated Rhode again by 0-12 to 0-10 after tough contest.
The semi-final pairings are Tullamore v Edenderry; Shamrocks v Ferbane.
In the Senior B Football Championship quarter-finals, Clara beat Tubber (1-13 to 0-12); Clonbullogue defeated Gracefield (2-11 to 1-11); Daingean overcame Ballycumber (3-11 to 1-11); and Cappincur ousted Walsh Island (0-14 to 0-09).
The semi-final pairings are Cappincur v Clara; Clonbullogue v Daingean.
Meanwhile, in the Intermediate Football Championship, there were victories for Raheen, Tullamore, St Brigid’s and Ballinagar, and in the semi-finals it’s Raheen v Tullamore; St Brigid’s v Ballinagar.
All these games will take place in two weeks’ time.
