Most of the Tullamore Court Hotel Offaly Club Football Championships are now at the semi-final stage. Penultimate round draws were held in O’Connor Park on Sunday evening, 28th August, and produced the following pairings:
SENIOR – Tullamore v Edenderry; Rhode v Ferbane
SENIOR B – Bracknagh v Walsh Island; Clonbullogue v Tubber
INTERMEDIATE – Raheen v St Brigid’s; Ballycommon v Tullamore
JUNIOR A – Ballinagar v Edenderry; Kilcormac-Killoughey v Rhode
In the Senior Football Championship, reigning champions Tullamore and last year’s finalists Rhode had progressed directly to the semi-finals as they topped their respective groups.
Last weekend, Ferbane came through a thrilling quarter-final versus Clara by 2-16 to 2-15, with four late points from Cian Johnson (2), Kevin Nugent and free-taker Shane Nally. Ferbane had led by six points at the interval thanks to goals from Johnson and Cathal Flynn, but Clara came storming back in the second half and after going ahead, helped by goals from Marcas Dalton and Pa Smith, looked on course to progress before Ferbane’s dramatic comeback.
On Sunday, a second half Rory Egan goal was the key score as Edenderry came through a close game. Shamrocks led by two points at the break, but Edenderry gained the upper hand after the resumption and progressed with four points to spare, 1-13 to 0-12.
