Massive Weekend Of Hurling Action In Offaly

It’s going to be an exciting weekend of club hurling action in Offaly.

Supporters can look forward to a double-header on Saturday in St Brendan’s Park, Birr and on Sunday in O’Connor Park, Tullamore.

Tickets for all the games are on sale online here: Offaly GAA Club Tickets

Remember, Under 16s are free and do not require a ticket, so it’s a perfect opportunity for younger supporters to come out and cheer on their local heroes.

On Saturday, St Brendan’s Park hosts the replay of the Molloy Environmental Systems Offaly Intermediate Hurling Championshp final between Seir Kieran and Shamrocks. There was an exciting finish to the final two weeks ago when a last-gasp goal from a free for Seir Kieran meant the sides ended all-square. Throw-in is at 3pm.

There will be a huge atmosphere for the Senior semi-final which throws-in at 5pm between Belmont and Shinrone. Belmont have never contested an Offaly SHC final and Shinrone’s only appearance was in 1960. Belmont deservedly topped their group in the SHC this summer with some top-class performances, including a convincing victory over Shinrone. But Shinrone bounced back with a superb defeat of reigning champions St Rynagh’s in the quarter-finals, so will be full of confidence also.

On Sunday, neighbours Clara and Tullamore will be bidding to return to the top flight of Offaly hurling when they compete in the Molloy Environmental Systems Offaly Senior ‘B’ Hurling Championship final. Clara defeated Tullamore narrowly in the group stages, but Tullamore have the experience of playing in last year’s final which they narrowly lost to Clodiagh Gaels. Clara came through convincingly against Birr in their semi-final, while Tullamore edged out Kilcormac-Killoughey.

Finally, at 5pm on Sunday, Kilcormac-Killoughey and Birr will look to return to the SHC final when they also meet in O’Connor Park. Like Belmont, K-K topped their group and so didn’t have to play a quarter-final, while they also narrowly beat Birr in the group stages. But Birr have the benefit of a big quarter-final victory over Ballinamere under their belts, so it’s anyone’s guess which of them will progress.
