Offaly U17 Celtic Challenge Hurling Team recorded a hard fought exciting win in their last league match in the Celtic Challenge against Dublin Clarke in Birr on Wednesday night last. The result ensured that Offaly finished on top of their league section unbeaten (one draw) and qualify for the top section of the knock out part of the competition to play for Corn Michael Hogan.
Wednesday nights result was achieved with a gutsy performance from a panel of players that have grown and come together over the last 10 weeks. Their guts, determination and never say die attitude was typical of what Offaly hurling represents. Next Sat they move on to Abbottstown to play Antrim in the quarter final in what promises to be a big challenge. It is also an honour and an opportunity for the players which they should relish.
Great credit is due to the back room team of Eunan Martin, Eamonn Hoctor, Liam Bergin and Michael Cleary for their work with the team. Thanks to the Birr club for the use of St Brendans Park and thanks to Simon Whelehan and Declan Cooke for carrying out their side line duties (Hope they look well in Yellow).
