Offaly GAA were delighted to host the inaugural Adam Mangan Memorial Tournament for inter-county Under 15 football teams today (Saturday, 13th August).
This is the primary national competition for this age group and attracted counties from all four provinces. Games were held at ten different venues in Offaly and credit is due to all the clubs who had their facilities in impeccable condition.
The Adam Mangan Memorial Cup final was held at O’Connor Park and resulted in a victory for Roscommon over Dublin by 0-12 to 1-6.
Meanwhile, the Adam Mangan Memorial Shield final took place at his home club, Kilclonfert, where Wicklow defeated another Dublin team by 1-7 to 0-9.
Members of the Mangan family were present at both venues to present the trophies to the victorious sides.
Offaly did themselves proud in the Cup, winning all three group games in Ferbane against Clare, Longford and Down before succumbing to a fresher Roscommon side in the semi-final at O’Connor Park. Dublin defeated Meath in the other semi-final.
Adam Mangan was an outstanding footballer who was tragically killed in a farm accident in October 2015, aged on 19. A member of the Offaly minor football panels in 2013 and 2014, he was a key player on the St Vincent’s parish team that won two Offaly Under 21 Football Championship titles and he was tipped to have a bright future at club and county level.
