St Broughan’s are Tullamore Court Hotel Minor A Football champions for the first time following a six point victory over Ferbane/Belmont in this replayed final in front of 1,141 spectators in O’Connor Pk this afternoon.
These sides were meeting for the third time and it took 200 minutes of football to separate them. In the end it was the Clonbullogue/Bracknagh/Walsh Island combination that proved the better side. The sides were level on two occasions in the first quarter, before St Broughan’s went into a 0-5 to 0-3 lead after twenty minutes. They still held a two point lead at the interval 0-6 to 0-4.
On the resumption Ferbane/Belmont were back on level terms inside five minutes. The side were level for the final time on 40 minutes at 0-7 each. At this stage Ferbane/Belmont’s influential mdi-fielder Kyle Higgins had to leave the field injured and St Broughan’s proceeded to get a strangle hold on mid-field. In the final twenty minutes they outscored F/B by seven points to one to run our comfortable and deserved winners.
