In light of the Government’s announcement at 6pm this evening (Friday, 7th August), Offaly County Board wish to confirm that all GAA games in the county will cease with immediate effect.
While new restrictions due to an increase in Covid-19 cases in Offaly, Laois and Kildare do not come into force until midnight, none of the games scheduled for this evening in Offaly will proceed.
This decision will come as a disappointment to our players, officials and supporters, however Offaly County Board respects the recommendations from the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET).
The new restrictions will be in place for two weeks and Offaly GAA will continue to monitor the situation and update our members as soon as possible.
The GAA have confirmed that this suspension on activities covers all collective training, matches, in-person meetings and camps.
GAA grounds and facilities in the affected counties should remain closed until further notice.
The position will be reviewed by our Gaelic games Covid-19 advisory group next Monday, after which further advice will be issued to clubs in the affected counties.
The GAA, An Cumann Camogíochta and LGFA encourages all members nationwide to continue to follow public health advice and in counties where activity is still permitted, to follow Gaelic games return to play protocols.
